SAGITTARIUS MANDALA
"This is one of the bi-polar signs. Like Gemini – capable of great descent and
visionary return. Sagg occurs when the days are dark and vision is difficult. They
are melancholic at times to extremes. They are meant to descend down into themselves
and
hopefully find the blue fire and illuminate a vision of life based on an awareness that darkness
will not descend completely. There will be light. but this is based on a faith founded in
a vision of
deep courage and steady heart."
- Dierdre Norman

CHAMPIONS OF TORONTO
Illustration for progressive political body One Toronto. Re-worked their 'Breakfast
of Champions' breakfast into the 'Champions of Toronto Breakfast,' to shine some light on
Toronto's real heroes - from all walks of life.

POWER ANIMAL
“It is said that we do not choose our animal totem. Instead our power animal
chooses us, appearing when we are ready for its teaching.”
- Animal Voices, Animal Guides, Dawn Bauman Brunke

HARMONY WITH NATURE
“Nature in all its splendor and glory lives. It is alive. It is conscious. It is one
with us. We are all part of nature. We are not separate from it. We are not
adversaries. Rather we are respectful companions living in harmony.”
- Weather Shamanism, Nan Moss and David Corbin

DO YOU LIKE TO BE IN MOVIES?
This illustration was inspired by a found piece of paper that said simply,
in all caps, "DO YOU LIKE TO BE IN MOTION PICTURE IF YOU GET PAY
FOOD DRINKS," and then a phone number. I've drawn what I imagine
could be one possible scenario that resulted from the mysterious card!

COMMUNICATION WITH NATURE
“In this time of worldwide environmental crisis, shamanism provides something
largely lacking in the anthropocentric ‘great’ religions: reverence for, and spiritual
communication with, the other beings of the earth and the planet itself.”
- The Way of the Shaman, Michael Harner

LUCK CHARM
"The use of amulets dates from the time when animism or magic satisfied
the spiritual needs of man. Primitive man seems to have adopted
them as a result of an internal urge or the natural instinct which made him
take steps to protect himself and try to divine the future."
- Amulets and Talismans, Sir Wallis Budge

MASTER OF TWO WORLDS
"Freedom to pass back and forth across the world division, from
the perspective of the apparitions of time to that of the casual deep
and back – not contaminating the mind to know the one by virtue of
the other – is the talent of the master."
- The Hero with a Thousand Faces, Joseph Campbell

HEALING
"As with all shamanic healing, it is not only about ‘curing’ a
symptom, rather it is aimed at bringing the whole system back
into balance, to ‘heal’ the earth, so that each part can function
harmoniously on its own and in relation to all the other parts."
- Weather Shamanism, Nan Moss and David Corbin

PEYOTE SPIRIT
This piece depicts the physical human embodiment of the psychedelic cactus peyote,
in her natural environment. A bit on peyote:
“The sacred plant lophophora williamsii forms the basis of the Huichol religion. It
grows in only one area of the world, from the deserts of southern Texas down into
the high desert area of San Luis Potosi in Mexico. For the Huichol, it is also a gift
from the gods, a sacrament.”
- The Shamanic Wisdom of the Huichol, Tom Soloway Pinkson, PHD

ACQUISITION OF POWER
“Growing stronger in the shamanic belief system involves learning how power can be
acquired, stored, maintained, and enhanced. The student of shamanism learns to gather
and store power in the body. Daily prayer practice with the seven powers, communication
work with power animals and spirit guides, and regular quests and pilgrimages to sacred
places all offer the opportunity to take in power and increase its potency.”
- The Shamanic Wisdom of the Huichol, by Tom Soloway Pinkson
